Roses have been used as beauty ingredients for centuries now. There are legends about the kings and queens bathing with rose water and applying it on to face. There are few simple techniques you can use rose water in beauty recipes.

  1. Healthy skin pack To a two tsp of Sandalwood powder, add a tsp of rose petal paste (fresh), a tsp of honey.Apply this to face.Wait for 20 mins before washing with lukewarm water.
  2. Facial cleanser :This too is a very simple remedy.To two tsp of rose water, add a tsp of cucumber juice. Dip a cotton ball in it and gently wipe face.
  3. For rough body skin Take a bowl of rose water , two tsp of honey.Apply this to whole body. Leave for 10 mins before washing with lukewarm water.
  4. For tired eyes :Place a bowl of rose water in fridge with a tsp of mint juice.Keep it in refrigerator for 15 mins.Dip a cotton ball in it and gently apply it to the eye area.

    Take cotton pads dipped in this mixture apply over eyes and rest for 15 mins

  5. Skin Brightening packTo two tsp of tomato pulp, add a tsp of papaya pulp, a tsp of rose petal paste (fresh) and tsp of honey.Apply this to face and Leave for 10 mins . Wash it off with lukewarm water.

4 Coconut oil home remedies


Hello friendsss!! Hope you are enjoying a fun filled weekend.

It has been many days since I wrote  any D.I.Y post and my friends started asking for one.

So here are the 4 coconut oil home remedies for healthy and glowing hair. Coconut oil is kind of a boon to hair. If you have no time for any beauty recipe or even if you don’t have patience enough for those things, a simple coconut oil can help you with good hair.

  1. Hair fall

    Mix 2 tsp of coconut oil with 2tsp honey. Apply this to scalp and wait for an hour. Shampoo thoroughly after an hour.

  2. Pack for hair fall

    To coconut oil, add Olive oil. Also add 2tsp curd and a tsp honey. Apply this to scalp and wait for an hour before washing it off.

  3. Dandruff

    Take some coconut oil in a bowl and add few neem leaves. Heat them till the leaves become slightly dark. Apply this mixture to scalp regularly. You can find other home remedies with Neem here .

  4. Dandruff 2

    To 3tsp of coconut oil, add a tsp  lemon juice. Apply this to scalp. Use it once in 15 days. Over using this method might dry the hair.

Summer vacation? 10 cool tips to survive

So summer is here and this is the favorite time for  everyone, especially Indians to plan a vacation. But as you know the earth is burning with too much temperature and summer vacation can prove exhausting if proper care is not taken.

1. Destination:

Choosing destination can be tricky. Beaches are fun but at the same time, they are too ‘hot and humid’ to handle.
Places with too many tourist spots can exhaust you in summer. You can consider national parks or hill stations instead.
Hill stations are ‘risk-free’ places. The weather will be pleasant, there are not many strenuous things to do. I am planning one this may.

2. Think about road trips twice.

Road trips are fun but during summer you have to reconsider them. Vehicles like bikes and cars (where the  roof is too close to the people inside) increase the possibility of sun stroke and can turn your summer vacation into a nightmare.

3. Timing

No matter where you are, make sure that you do not wander outdoors between 11 am to 4pm which is the ‘danger zone’. I know it is not possible when you are in a trip, but during this time visit places like museums, zoos so that the exposure is limited.

4. Use proper shield

Do not ever neglect your self. When you are outside, use proper covering for mouth, nose and ears from hot wind. Hot wind increases the risk of dehydration. Use a hat or an umbrella to give your body protection. Goggles are a must have during summers.

5. Sunscreen

Most of the people neglect this part. Unless you want to end up with a nasty tan after the trip, use required amount of sunscreen to all exposed parts of the body. Re apply it once every 3-4 hrs to ensure that it works.


Street food is always awesome, but in summer when you are prone to dehydration and gastroenteritis, please stay away from the food which is very hot, very oily or which does not appear safe. During the day frequently eat pieces of cucumber and watermelon which help you get enough hydration for body.

7. Hydration

Always carry a bottle with you, no matter where you are going. Who knows you might go exploring an off-beat place where water is not available or water is not safe. If you are too lazy to carry a heavy water bottle, carry a purifying pen empty purifying water bottle. You are more prone to dehydration when you are wandering outside. So, make sure to drink at least 15 glasses of water. Coconut water is a very good companion in summer. In addition to the water volume, it provides mineral supplementation. Drink coconut wherever it is possible.

8.Skin care

Summer can become an enemy to skin, If proper care is not taken. Excessive oil and sweat can cause troublesome irritation, rashes, prickly heat, exacerbation of acne. Change your skin care products to suit this season. Use tissues to wipe sweaty face to avoid acne. Use face packs with aloe vera gel, sandal wood powder to soothe the skin and body.


Choose cotton and linen clothes for the season. Loose fitted clothes give you comfort and flexibility. Remember that dark colors absorb more heat.

10. Medicine

Carry some emergency medication like anti emetics, anti-motility drugs and most importantly few

packets of Oral rehydration powder. If you suspect dehydration and are stuck at some place with limited medical facilities, simply start drinking O.R.S powder mixed with water.

I came to this product when I started searching for a hair wash without parabens or sulphate.When I saw this I was instantly attracted. I was still skeptical but as it was cheap I tried.

How to use :

Take the needed amount of paste (depends on hair length  ) add double quantity of water and mix well until it lathers.

Massage from the hair root to tip ,leave for 5 mins. You do not need any conditioner for this.

My take on V CareShikakai Paste.

Initially i was very uncomfortable using this as this was kind of extra work. You need to know the exact amount to use ,you need to massage properly for  a clean wash . But i started liking it after the first wash it self . It made my hair look healthy ,shiny and it was soft to touch. I had few incidents when i failed to wash in a proper way and my hair was left greasy.

  • Easily available even in towns ( at least in south India)
  • No need of conditioner.
  • Sulphate ,paraben free.
  • Easily usable traditional formula.
  • Results in healthy looking hair.
  • Hair is soft and i love to touch it.
  • Decent travel friendly packing.

  • Sometimes hair is left greasy..
  • Can not control frizz .

4 Step home pedicure for winter to summer feet.

Hello beauties !!!!!!!  My skin is struggling to survive the winters . My busy schedule ( with frequent changes ) makes me forget by oil bath on few days & i do not remember to apply lotion until I spot dry feet .(By that time I will already be in Hospital ).

Now the seson is in changing mode and I am experiencing both dry , dull  skin along with tan.

So i have been following this 4 step  pedicure regimen whenever i get time ( at least once a week ) to protect my neglected feet. This is very simple and with basic ingredients.




Soak foot in lukewarm water with 1 tsp honey and baking soda.Soak for 20 mins ,this will ease your pains , will remove odors and dirt.


Massage with mixture of 3tsp rice flour, ,1tsp apple cider vinegar,1/2 tsp honey.Massage for 5 mins.


Make a mixture of 1tsp curd with 1tsp tomato juice .If this is too runny to apply on feet you can add besan.


Apply olive oil + lemon juice/sesame oil to feet wear socks and sleep .

Hello everyone !!  Still in new year hang over ? I have an exam so had to come out . Few of my besties are going to get married in next few months and i decided to do some special series to help them . I am starting with the body scrub.

This is a very basic body scrub which is a very common practice at our place . I used this daily throughout my childhood winters. In fact everyone of my family did.Few more ingredients  To the basic scrub  ,i added few more ingredients to make it special bridal scrub.

You need …

Equal amounts of

Besan (Gram flour)      -Acts as a natural soap to cleanse the oil and dirt

Orange peel powder ( You can buy  Banjara’s peel powder or you can make at home by drying orange peel and powdering them )                        – Gives a fresh feeling and helps with body odors.

Turmeric                     – do i need to tell that it gives a natural glow and brightness to the skin ,helps to remove tan.

Rice flour                   – Exfoliates the skin and helps remove tan.


Decide the quantity yourself ,if kept dry this mixture lasts for 2 months.

Procedure :

  • Mix   1 part of olive oil to 3 parts of any other oil ( Any thick oil will do).
  • You can add any essential oil to make it better.
  • Massage gently .
  • Let that settle for  a 10 minutes .
  • Take the above mixture in a small bowl ,add milk or rose water to it.
  • Massage the powder ( take time ).
  • Skip  soap ( except for necessary areas )
  • Wash with lukewarm water.
  • Do this at least twice a week for glowing skin.

I do a besan ,oil massage on daily basis and believe me i use body lotions only  occasionally .It keeps my skin soft and supple.

8 Tips To Save Your Sweater

         Hi guys!! Winter is back and everyone around is getting their warm clothing out. People from other places might have started experiencing it already, but here in hyderabad, winter just is knocking the door.

Sweaters are no more just comfort clothing, they have become the style statements.
These are some tips to take care your awesome sweaters this season.

 1.Cleaning :

Do not abuse your sweaters with repeated washing . That will kill it . Prefer dry clean over washing for cleaning it.  It is Ok to wash them just once a month . After every usage you can just dry it in shade.


2.Washing :

If you prefer to wash them at home , hand wash is more advisable than machine wash . Use a mild detergent .I prefer baby shampoo for that purpose.

3.Add  vinegar

Adding apple cider vinegar to the water used for washing helps the sweaters become fluffy and lively .If you are not comfortable with the smell consider fabric conditioner made for wool.


4.Stains :

If you accidentally get stains of any kind remove them immediately .You can use baking soda for this purpose.



Never ,ever hang a sweater . That will make it bigger in size and it might lose its elasticity.


You can occasionally keep it in a fridge. This will prevent pilling and moth infestation.


Pilling is one painful issue we face with woolen clothing .It will make them look dull & old .There are few methods to remove it.

Never pull them which can destroy the fabric.

a) Commercial products: There are few commercial products especially made for de-pilling like sweater comb ,sweater stone and sweater pilling shaver.

b) If you have patience ,you can simply cut them with scissors .This is the cheapest way but this could be dangerous and exhausting.

c ) Pumice stone : You can use the regular pumic stone to gently rub the sweater . Make sure to be gentle.

d)Razor        : You can use regular old shaving razor .Use it as you use it on skin .Make sure the razor is old and not sharp.



Do not forget to place moth -repellents in the wardrobe.

Hello friends!!!!!!These are some regular issues with sunscreen that i thought the answers might be helpful to you

1.Why :

This is a really good question. For answer, I don’t want to go in to medical terms.  It is very much misunderstood that ‘sunscreen’  is just meant to keep tan at bay. Apart from that it protects skin from premature aging, skin cancer and some skin conditions. So, if you are going to stay in sun for > 15mins (even in winter) sunscreen is a must.

2.When :

Sunscreen takes at least 20-30mins to work, so plan accordingly.

3.When in all the regimen :

This is another mistake done by many. Sunscreen needs skin contact to work. Apply your sunscreen as a first layer (after cleansing, toning and before moisturizer, make up). Yes, you need to apply before moisturizer. It is not like if you apply it on the top of everything, it is going to act like a shield.

4.Where :

It is again wrong to apply it only on face. Every sun exposed area needs it. Do not forget top of the ears, upper back, top of the feet.

5.How much :

I have seen many people using sunscreen in less than needed amount. For face you need at least 1andhalf to 2 pea sized amount. For body if only for arms and feet, you will need at least half ounce (15 ml) for bikini you need 1 and half to 2 ounce. Plan it according to your exposed area.

6.  When to re apply

you applied in the morning and forgot about it. Later you will start cursing that bloody sunscreen product you used. If you don’t want this happening to you again, do not forget to re apply once every 3-4hrs.

7.Who :

every one under the sun needs sunscreen unless you have some special skin problem or allergy to any ingredient.

8.What is S. P. F. :

It is a short Form for Sun protection factor. In simple terms it describes the capacity of sunscreen. In country like India, I will advise you to use at least S . P. F. 30 UVA & 2+ UVB protection.

9.Long wear really???

Some famous brands claim ( boast)an extremely long wear sunscreen ,but even if the brand is very famous top brand offering costly sunscreen ,this claim is not true. Any sunscreen needs to be reapplied every  3-4 hrs.

10.Water-proof and sweat proof

I heard from a dermatologist that water and sweat proof really mean that they are relatively resistant to water & sweat ,not complete ‘proof’ . You still need to consider after a dip and wild play under sun.
