Budget Makeup, BLueheaven.com

Hi friends!!!!!!! My schedule these days is sooo hectic that forget writing, I am not able to look at my blog for days. I even stopped shopping for many days. Recently, I went on mini shopping spree for my birthday. I am always on look for budget friendly brands. On off such is blueheaven.com for cosmetics. I have been using this brand’s lipsticks for more than 10 months now. This brand has gained enough of my trust that i did shop more.

This time I bought 2 eye liners, a blush and 6 lipsticks.

Blueheaven.com offers  a wide range of cosmetic and beauty products at affordable prices. They have a long list of lipsticks in 3 ranges, they have face and eye make up also. Their felt tip eyeliner is simply amazing. They also have skin care range – bleaches, facial kits, massage creams and hair removal cream. I have been using Blueheaven.com haldi- chandan massage cream for the last 6 months and i love it. Moreover, the Blueheaven.com is entirely husband friendly. That is…it comes in budget and won’t give your husband a heart attack.

For all this stuff the bill was 1000/-. I have used lipsticks already and will review soon. They are decently priced and of good quality. Kajal is also lovely. I am  sure, I am going to try many more products from the same brand.

Only problem might be getting a proper understanding of colors for any makeup product.  Buying cosmetics online has this biggg draw back. As there were not much reviews on these products, I just guessed their true colors. Most of them turned out fine.

Stay tuned for the upcoming reviews.

Hotel Willow Hill, Ooty

Ooty left me with some very wonderful memories. This hotel willow hill is part of it. When i was browsing through all the hotels, this one got my attention instantly.   It looked like those hotels which I used to see in old movies shot on hill stations.  Seeing that even reviews were good, I opted for it.

willow hill

My experience with the willow hill, Ooty-

willow hillwillow hill

We faced some problem in reaching the hotel as it was in some distant location and our driver was unaware of it. We could reach with help of the staff. We were surprised to find one telugu speaking person in the staff who was very helpful throughout our stay. The staff also helped us in getting a bike for rent and one person even gave me his helmet for 3 days.

The hotel rooms were built in the cabin style with wood covering normal cement walls. That gave me a very good cozy feel.  The interiors were also matchy with the English cabin theme with dim lighting and high cushion chairs.

willow hill

The room had a  huge glass window with  a garden and valley view.  We used to see staring out of the window drinking steamy coffee and talking about all the rubbish in the world for hours. The bathroom was also big enough to have a good time bathing.

They have a big, pretty garden which was in bloom when we visited. There was also a small children’s play area which we used shamelessly.

willow hillwillow hill

As it is in south India and we too only eat south Indian food, we liked the food. We had plenty of coffee. Actually we were forced to, because of the temperature.

So, as a whole I loveeeee this hotel and i have recommended this to many already.

My rating for The willow hill, Ooty is….

Location               4.7/5,

Amenities             4/5,

Service quality      4/5,

Cleanliness           4.5/5,

Food                   4/5,

4 Coconut oil home remedies

Hello friendsss!! Hope you are enjoying a fun filled weekend.

It has been many days since I wrote  any D.I.Y post and my friends started asking for one.

So here are the 4 coconut oil home remedies for healthy and glowing hair. Coconut oil is kind of a boon to hair. If you have no time for any beauty recipe or even if you don’t have patience enough for those things, a simple coconut oil can help you with good hair.

  1. Hair fall

Mix 2 tsp of coconut oil with 2tsp honey. Apply this to scalp and wait for an hour. Shampoo thoroughly after an hour.

  2. Pack for hair fall

To coconut oil, add Olive oil. Also add 2tsp curd and a tsp honey. Apply this to scalp and wait for an hour before washing it off.

  3. Dandruff

Take some coconut oil in a bowl and add few neem leaves. Heat them till the leaves become slightly dark. Apply this mixture to scalp regularly. You can find other home remedies with Neem here .

  4. Dandruff 2

To 3tsp of coconut oil, add a tsp  lemon juice. Apply this to scalp. Use it once in 15 days. Over using this method might dry the hair.

Hope you find these tips helpful.

I have written a post with multiple hair packs, which you can find here.

Papikondalu trip,day 1

Hello, friends!!!! This is about the first day of our ‘two-day trip’ to Papikondalu. If you missed the introduction post for Papikondalu, find it here. You can start your trip either from Bhadrachalam or Rajamandri. It is almost equal in distance either way. We chose Bhadrachalam as it was near and was in Telangana. So, we reached Bhadrachalam after an 8 hr night journey. We took a small hotel just for freshening up. We were ready by 7 am. We called the trip organizer and he asked us to meet him at a particular place. We were the first to arrive at that place( as it happens most of the times). We had to wait for almost an hour for others to arrive and the vehicle to start.

The vehicle was simply an extended ‘auto’ which took us to a ‘Pochavaram’ village after a two-hour journey. That was the launching station for boats. The system there is very simple and disorganized. All the travel agencies hand over their poor travelers to one man who is in charge of all the boats there. So no matter with whom you booked, you end up in a huge line with others. If you are brilliant enough and know the Que dealing tactics in a country like India, you can get into a boat in few minutes. It was just ‘survival of the fittest’. There is no difference in boats as well, they are filled in ‘first come first basis’ unless AC ones. We opted Non AC as there were much freedom and space.

Breakfast was served in a haphazard way. We begun our journey at around 11:30. The journey was so…pleasent and made us forget everything else.

The boat slowly moves crossing dense jungles, tribal villages and beauty is all around. The only trouble was the blazing sun.

We spotted so many interesting things as the journey takes you to places which are not much civilized. At some point you will be at place where is no other human being(except the ones in the boat).

One hour of the journey takes you to a tribal village called Perantalla palli. A huge, old tamarind tree welcomes you. You can buy some hand made items made of bamboo. They are cute and cheap as well. There is a temple called Ramakrishna muni vatika adjoining a small waterfall where you can spend some time. You can walk into the village to get some scent of the tribal life.

The journey starts again after about 30 mins and takes you deep to a place called Papikondalu where the river Godavari has been bordered both sides by hills which make the place look like ‘Papidi’ (partition in the hair). For few minutes, I wasI was sooo exhilarated witnessing the beauty.

We halted at a place called Kolluru where lunch was served and we were going to stay there for the night. Lunch tasted good but the serving was very messy and my parents couldn’t eat.People who opted for one day trip are taken back after lunch.

Kolluru is a tribal village on the river bank. Going to our accommodation needed almost a km walking in the hot sun and near boiling sand. We were so exhausted by the time we reached our huts that we slept almost immediately. When we woke up it was about five in the evening and we went to explore the surroundings. It was still hot outside and we saw one worker dropping wood outside our huts

We asked him the reason. When he told they were for ‘bonfire’, we almost laughed. Bonfire?we were about to get fried in heat.

He simply smiled and said “Just wait and see”

We played for hours in the sand and realised it was getting cold slowly. People who came in groups were indulged in sand sports like Volleyball. There were two groups of huts, one was near the river bank and was for youngster who come with friends the second was near the village and was for families.

After the dinner, we spent some time near our personal bonfire before sleeping.

There was no mobile signal, no power point for charging,no television and it was still amazing.

Bye till the next post.

The story of Sankranthi ,part 2

Hello friend….When we talk about festivals ,we have never ending stories .I myself can write a small book on each festival.

I am trying to suppress my enthusiasm and  condense my story in these two parts. There are many things which bring the uniqueness to Sankranthi .As i already talked you about Muggulu and Gobbemma I will move on to other things like..

Bhogi manta

Bhogi manta is the bonfire on the day of Bhogi . This tradition started most probably as an effort to fight the freezing temperatures. Another thing People do is to  burn old ,useless things in the bonfire. Sometimes children who want their parents to buy new things for them ,burn their old things before parents notice them .

Bhogi pallu

My friend's niece
My friend’s niece
plate with Bhogi pallu
plate with Bhogi pallu

It is a tradition of blessing children in a small celebration . All the children from the houses nearby are invited .They have to sit tightly together while we pour a mixture of small coins,Jujube (fruits),flower petals on them .Later they are given viands .Children have attend the same thing at every house in the community . Small kids get to eat many fruits while older kids like to pick up coins.I remember carrying a bag with me in childhood to carry  viands back home.

Hari dasu

Hari dasu is an exquisitely dressed man who comes to every house while singing traditional songs . Women donate some rice to him to get his blessings .It is a profession but i do not remember when was the last time I have seen one.

As i told you Sankranthi is a festival of showing gratitude to Gods ,people as well as animals . How can you forget the most important friend of a farmer ,an Ox. Remember ,before the age of vehicles they used to help a lot in the field .

So during this time ,they are decorated with bunch of clothes, garlands and are called “Gangireddu” .

There is a profession in which people live with the help of Gangireddu . They can play piper and a small hand held drum. They take the decorated Ox to rich houses .They train the animals to perform small tricks like wishing ,dancing in small steps. Pleased landlords give them grain and clothes. This profession is also in the verge of extinction ,mostly because of  modernization.

Sankranthi is a season of betting. This is usually seen in Andhra pradesh . Bettings  involve animals ( Cock fights) which made them illegal . In spite of law ,these things are still going on and crore of money change hands . Sadly politicians and film actors also involved. Here the bettings are taken so seriously that even families are left broken ,and battles happened . ( Battle of Palanadu, for example ).

The roosters used for cock fights are considered very prestigious , the owners spend lakhs of rupees on them . They are fed with costly food, dry fruits daily.

Some more muggulu…..

5 days of Telugu wedding Day 2

5 days of Telugu wedding Day 2

HelIo buddies!! I  really can not tell you how much I am enjoying the response coming for my wedding series.

My look for the night
My look for the night

This is the 2nd day ,that is one day before marriage .I was given lot of time to make arrangements for the big day while everyone in the house were moving annoyingly busy . I was actually rather cool and had to face many questions for that as if that was sin to be a bride and be cool at the same time . As everyone would expect the house was quite chaotic ,everyone was running around half of them did not even know what they were doing …

I did multiple things throughout the day .I helped them decorate things used for wedding . I tried on few things like the basket I will be sitting in on the wedding day . ( am i making sense ? O.K. You will understand in next post ) . My other duty was getting constant updates from my husband about their journey to our place.

My marriage happened at a very small town in which my grandparents from both sides lived .My in laws live at Hyderabad .The distance is around 260 km  . Everyone got boosted up with excitement by 6 in the evening, shouting ” Ohhhh.!!!!They are near by ,they are just few mins away..” . They reached our place by around 7 pm.

We have a welcome ceremony called “Edurkollu ” ,which is welcoming Groom and his family with refreshments and then there will be a Puja. We booked 2 halls for wedding at one hall this ceremony took place.

By the time they arrived everyone left me with a young sister at home . I was called later at 9 .

 Few more memories
Few more memories

When i reached the venue ,i was ushered to a room . Then I saw ‘him’  and God . I started getting palpitations . It is not like i saw ‘him’ for the first time or anything .I had known him for more then 8 months and we met exactly a week before .But the marriage had some effect on me I think. Seeing him suddenly in traditional attire ( like ‘let’s get started with this’ kinda look.)

made me elated and anxious at the same time.

There were some more rituals ,some more Puja. Our families presented clothes and gifts to each other. The whole process took

some 2hrs. Then the time for dinner ,which was arranged in some other Hall.

We arranged one traditional Telangana cultural program known as ‘ Oggu Katha ‘. It is one of the fine arts that belong to the region which is known to very few people. When we were planning the wedding, decided to incorporate some local ,neglected

art or cultural form rather than fancy ,famous forms like Orchestra or bollywood dance. My parents saw this at a temple program and thought this as impressive. They had difficult time in tracing those artists . They inquired at many places, finally my father found them with help of his previous students . ( It is always best to be a teacher ,you will have thousands of old students and at least half of them will be really happy to help ) .That is how we hired these people who had done a spectactular performance of singing ,playing some instrument, dancing and acrobats . The performance lasted for 20mins at that place and as all the guests were walking to go to dinner The dancer’s gang preceded them continuing their performance.

oggu katha

I reached home at 12 am after dinner ,drifted into sleep reminding myself that the next day by the same time I would be a married woman.

5 days of TELUGU WEDDING : Day 1,Part 2

Hi guys !!!!The response to the first post of this series has been amazing and I am really thrilled by it .I got many mails and personal messages as my comments were not working. I have made few corrections ,hope they are working now .

So as i told you we have really very long ,too many rituals because of which i needed 2 parts for the first day itself .So this is the 2nd  part.If you missed the first part you can read it here .

So By the time ‘Thalambralu ‘ preparation was over ,I was left exhausted .In the afternoon there was nothing much to do ,but they were not going to leave me alone . It was time for ‘mehendi’ .We do not have any separate ceremony dedicated to ‘Mehendi’ . But these days people are trying to have ‘Mehendi’ , ‘Sangeeth’ .ceremonies mostly due to their popularity and due to influence of bollywood films &Hindi films. Some of our relatives even asked us whether we were arranging anything . But we did not want it . When we have too many on our own ,why imitate ?

So where was i? OK OK back to my mehendi program. As we do not have anything related to it ,there was no specific time for it .But as my schedule was extremely tight ,the only free afternoon we had to give for that poor mehendi girl who was hanging around for a chance.

By the time I am done with 2hand and 2 feet ( God !!How tiring it is to sit in particular angles for hours ) i was finished leaving few sprains in the body. Then it was time for getting ready for the evening programs.

Receiving gifts is always great.
                                                   Receiving gifts is always great.

Katnala Uruchuttu

As i was telling in the first post some of the rituals are just special to a certain area .One of those kinds is ‘Uru chuttu'(which simply means encircling the village) for our and nearby other villages .It is like a Baarath where the celebrating family encircles the village along with relatives and band .It will be there  for everything like naming ceremony, engagements, marriage (for a single marriage at least 5-7 uruchuttus happen).

So in ‘Katnala uruchuttu’ close relatives of the bride /groom will encircle the village carrying the gifts which were about to be given to the bride/groom’s family .The bride will be waiting for them at her place ( In this case meeee waiting for them to hand over me giftssss!!!!!!!!!Yayyyyyyy!! )

One confession here… I had been dreaming of getting married since the age of 10 ,just and just to receive Gifts. I always used to dream about the day when i am in the middle of a pool of gifts with a scissors in hands.

My look for the night
       My look for the night

Pellikuthuru Uruchuttu

I went to too many houses these were just few
I went to too many houses these were just few,I look just yaak with exhaustion

As i told you each marriage will have min of 5 uruchuttus. In the night i am taken by foot to circle the village and i am supposed to go into houses of whoever invites..I mean relatives. They will call the bride in, get her some sweet to eat, give her clothes and take some snaps .

I read somewhere that this came from one previous custom of inviting bride to each of relative’s house from 1 month prior to the marriage .Then the relatives used to give her special massage and bath ,traditional feast and clothes. This would make her look healthy and well nourished by the time of marriage. But later like everything else in the world this process also was condensed into a short one .

That night it was 1 am by the time i reached home and slept peacefully .

This is the ending of the first day…I hope i am not boring you with too much info.

Goa Dates Outfit 4

At the resort

Hi Guys !! This is the last post of my Goa outfit series . That day we planned a road trip to an unknown place called Tiracol Fort.If you want to read the full story of the journey ,click here-Journey to the less known Tiracol Fort, Goa

The morning was slightly chilly and considering the long road journey I chose a very simple and light outfit . I added a blazer which could be taken off anytime. As i expected it again became sunny and i had to remove my blazer .

I really like neon colors as they have some bright cheering up effect. The neon yellow (bright lemon yellow is my all time favorite. I have many pieces in that color. The blazer went well with the Lip T shirt . The blue necklace complemented the yellow

blazer and matched the T shirt. The yellow gladiator sandals were my favorite.

Outfit details :

Yellow blazer, lip t shirt – dresslink.com
Denim shorts – recycled from old jeans.
Blue necklace – Addons
Yellow gladiator – done by none.

Hope you like the outfit. If you do please comment and share.

7 Goa travel tips

7 Goa travel tips

Hello guys , I have been thinking of writing this for sooo long but this is delayed by one thing or the other

Goa travel tips

 Photo Matthew Jackson

Our marriage was in June , so the honeymoon was also planned then. But unfortunately most of the beach cities have no water activities or sports in monsoon ,that is June -October . We had no option as we wanted  Goa badly. If you do not have any such restriction and want to enjoy Goa completely ,plan your holiday accordingly .

Goa travel tips

Though the simplest and most convenient method is travel by air , I advice you to plan a train journey .It can offer a spectacular view of Dudhsagar Falls ,if you are luckySome trains like Vasco da Gama express, Amaravathi Express pass it . Just inquire whether a train from your place passes it .

You can read the full story of my experience here.

If you are traveling in only male group ,it is OK even if you stay in some budget hostel like  place .But if you have girls in your batch or you are with family ,then you need to be rather careful about the hotel . Majority of gangs reach Goa just to booze . It is always better to be on safe side ,you know !!!! Read reviews before selecting a hotel or resort .Make sure you feel secure enough at the place.

4. Sunscreen

Goa is one of the most hot and humid places i have ever visited . Chances of sun damage are double there .So have heaps of sunscreen bottles with you . Also try to buy some ‘ water resistant’ ones. (for more details on using sunscreen ,read this 10 sunscreen questions answered ).

5. Clothing :

Goa is the only one place in the India  where you can wear anything to every place without the need to face ‘stare’s from everyone. I even traveled in a rural route on bike which was pretty conservative ,but no one gave us odd looks. So you can happily experiment with clothes. ( To know what i chose for Goa trip click these links…GOA DATES :Outfit 1,OUTFIT 2,OUTFIT 3 )

As Goa is a world known destination which welcomes millions from all over the world ,wide range of cuisines are at your service. Especially for non vegetarians it is like a heaven of sea food.

Goa travel tips

Goa is used synonymous to the beach ,but there are many other places in Goa if you have a willingness to explore. I have written posts on that which you can read from the links Places to visit in Goa other than beaches ,Journey to the less known Tiracol Fort- Goa,FORT AGUADA ,GOA.
