10 sunscreen questions answered

Hello friends!!!!!!These are some regular issues with sunscreen that i thought the answers might be helpful to you

1.Why :

This is a really good question. For answer, I don’t want to go in to medical terms.  It is very much misunderstood that ‘sunscreen’  is just meant to keep tan at bay. Apart from that it protects skin from premature aging, skin cancer and some skin conditions. So, if you are going to stay in sun for > 15mins (even in winter) sunscreen is a must.

2.When :

Sunscreen takes at least 20-30mins to work, so plan accordingly.

3.When in all the regimen :

This is another mistake done by many. Sunscreen needs skin contact to work. Apply your sunscreen as a first layer (after cleansing, toning and before moisturizer, make up). Yes, you need to apply before moisturizer. It is not like if you apply it on the top of everything, it is going to act like a shield.

4.Where :

It is again wrong to apply it only on face. Every sun exposed area needs it. Do not forget top of the ears, upper back, top of the feet.

5.How much :

I have seen many people using sunscreen in less than needed amount. For face you need at least 1andhalf to 2 pea sized amount. For body if only for arms and feet, you will need at least half ounce (15 ml) for bikini you need 1 and half to 2 ounce. Plan it according to your exposed area.

6.  When to re apply

you applied in the morning and forgot about it. Later you will start cursing that bloody sunscreen product you used. If you don’t want this happening to you again, do not forget to re apply once every 3-4hrs.

7.Who :

every one under the sun needs sunscreen unless you have some special skin problem or allergy to any ingredient.

8.What is S. P. F. :

It is a short Form for Sun protection factor. In simple terms it describes the capacity of sunscreen. In country like India, I will advise you to use at least S . P. F. 30 UVA & 2+ UVB protection.

9.Long wear really???

Some famous brands claim ( boast)an extremely long wear sunscreen ,but even if the brand is very famous top brand offering costly sunscreen ,this claim is not true. Any sunscreen needs to be reapplied every  3-4 hrs.

10.Water-proof and sweat proof

I heard from a dermatologist that water and sweat proof really mean that they are relatively resistant to water & sweat ,not complete ‘proof’ . You still need to consider after a dip and wild play under sun.

Tea tree oil is derived from the leaves of the tea tree .It has antibacterial and anti fungal properties .Tea tree oil has a very important role in my daily regimen.I use it in multiple ways .I add two drops of it in everywhere imaginable. It is like my  ”do boondh zindagi ke”.

.1.Face pack

I do not have any specific ways to use , as i do not have any allergic reactions to tea tree oil . I add 2 drops of tea tree oil to every pack i make. Both d.i.y and  commercial ones .It just adds a dose of acne coverage for me.

2.MOISTURIZER

I have an extremely oily acne prone skin that tea tree oil found a place in almost everything i use on my skin.Like the one before i have added few drops of tea tree oil to the night cream i daily use.

3.Spot

On red and inflamed ones i use a drop directly , i use a cotton bud to apply it on spot. The action of tea tree oil for acne is comparable to Benzyl Peroxide . But tea tree oil is less irritating and more time taking compared to the later.

If you have intolerance to the strong tea tree oil , you can consider adding it to Aloevera gel

4.post -pop up

I usually do not pick or pop my pimples as it can need to nasty scarring and spread. But there are times where it becomes an emergency . If i have to pop a pimple , i will do in a very sterile way . After popping up ,i apply tea tree oil topically on the raw spot . It burns a bit but it can reduce the inflammation and it can reduce the infectivity  (chances of infecting other areas)

5.steam

I take 10 mins of steam twice a week for both beauty and medical benefits . I add two drops of tea tree oil to the steam . Being an antibacterial it helps with bronchitis and sinusitis as well.

6.HAIR OIL

7.for bathing water

I have a habit of adding essential oils to my bathing water . The aroma gives a nice feeling , plus tea tree oil helps with body odor and itchiness .

8.FOR MINOR CUTS

I am extremely prone to cuts and other minor injuries . If i can not get my hands on any antiseptic ,i will happily use tea tree oil ( i keep a bottle of it everywhere i go ). I also use this after threading my eyebrows .

 

Do not use tea tree oil , if you have extremely sensitive skin unless tested. Pubertal and prepubertal boys may experience some problems with it , as tea tree oil might have some harmonal effects .

This is a fact known to everyone & also ignored by everyone. Drink 2.5 –  3 ltrs of water daily. If you do not drink enough water , your body goes into something called “water saving mode” to retain more water in the body which can make you look fat.

2. After brushing in the morning drink a glass of warm water with lemon in it.During sleep our body will reduce it’s functions to a subnormal level & metabolism is low.With this glass of water you are actually boosting your metabolism.

The common mistake done by most people. Never think that if you are skipping a meal ,you are going to consume less calories & thereby you can reduce weight. But the result is quite opposite. When you skip any meal you are going to eat heavily in the next meal ,your body will also convert most of the energy into fat.

4.WATER AGAIN

Take a bottle of water wherever you go. Believe water bottle to be your coolest accessory. Most of the times when you feel hungry, you might just be thirsty. So, drink a glass of water before you decide to eat something.

5. DITCH FRIZZY DRINKS & SODAS.

Especially there are plain calories without any nutrition in them.

They are pretty addictive too. Instead choose healthy alternatives like coconut water ,fresh sugar less fruit juice.

5. DO NOT GET TRAPPED.

Manufacturers have their own ways of selling their products. One of them is labelling ” fat free/0% trans fat/sugar free”. Do not fall for them. Fat free doesn’t mean it has less calories . Sugar free products contain artificial sweeteners which are toxic & can even be carcinogenic.

6.  Dont get annoyed by me for mentioning water again & again. It’s such an important element of the body. Drink a glass of water 15 – 30 mins before each meal ,which helps you consume less food.

7.EAT FREQUENTLY NOT CONTINUOUSLY.

If you have a habit of munching something through out the day ,stop yourself. On the other hand eat at frequent intervals of 2-3 hrs. Never starve body.If you starve it ,it will take revenge by storing more fat from the next meal. This is a proven fact.

8.KEEP SOME HEALTHY SNACK WITH YOU .

No matter where you go just try to keep some healthy food in bag. Like a banana or apple or carrot or cucumber. If you don’t have anything healthy with you ,you will most probably end up buying some unhealthy stuff like chips or soft drinks.

9. SLOW EATING IS THE KEY.

Do not rush with food. Try to eat slowly sensing it’s taste. Chewing each bite 20-30mins is advised. There is a logic eating slowly helps you achieve your satiety earlier so you no longer feel hungry to eat . It also helps in digestion.

10.SMALL PLATE HELPS.

It might seem a joke when I say eating in a small plate helps. But it really does. It tricks your brain to think that you are actually having a heavy meal. So the brain decides to stop eating.
